J.S. Bach originally composed this piece as a duet for alto and soprano voices, with organ and violone accompaniment. In this arrangement by R.D. Tennent, the key has been transposed from B flat to F. The violone part, adapted to the bass recorder, could also be played on guitar, cello or bass viol.
